Built in 1907, by William Daniel McLennan, St Matthew's is described as the most significant Art Nouveau church design in Europe which even ‘out-Mackintoshes’ Mackintosh. It features a War Memorial of stained glass by artist Robert Anning Bell, as well as an original condition organ built by Norman and Beard.

St Matthew’s was originally designed with a belfry, but unfortunately it was never completed due to cost. However, as a special marker we have a doorway that hides a staircase which would have led to the steeple. Think you’re clever enough to discover our secret stairway that leads to nowhere?

Come along and enjoy the building for yourself with a variety of activities for all ages.
